When you Google search “how to make money online” you’ll be served over one million search results with a side of headache.
Where do I even begin?
Making money online is one of the most lucrative and sought out opportunities since the creation of the internet.
I mean, who doesn’t want to make money from the convenience of their laptop anywhere in the world?
Even the title “online entrepreneur” has an allure to it many would love to claim.
However, with the massive money making schemes available comes a lot of money making scams. There are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of websites out there selling people dreams—that is, dreams of making money.
What they’re not offering you is real valuable information that will help you build a business for your future. They are preying on people’s hopes and desperations and selling courses, programs, and softwares so that they can profit for their own sake.
I’m not saying that there aren’t valuable courses out there but in my experience so far, the bullshit outweighs the good shit.
How To Make Money Online in 2018
With that all being said, I want to discuss, what I think, are the two greatest opportunities for making money online in the next year.
No these are not new, and no this blog post is not going to change your world, but it might give you some insight on some pretty cool ways to start making money online today.
I’ve touched on this topic in recent posts and briefly explained what it is but I’ll do so again here.
Simply put, Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA) is a program that allows third parties to sell on the Amazon website. People like you and me can send in products to Amazon, which they will store and then fulfill.
Customers see your listing, place an order, and Amazon automatically ships the product to that customer; you get paid, and Amazon takes a fee.
The beauty of this program is that you get to take advantage of a massive platform with millions of eyeballs. In my opinion, it is one of the easiest and quickest ways to start making substantial money online.
No, not everyone is successful at this business but then you have guys like this—who make $6 million in 6 months selling solar eclipse glasses at the ripe age of 25. Yes you read that correctly—SIX MILLION DOLLARS!
By the way, I met this guy in Guangzhou and it was pretty incredible to hear his story.
My point is, you don’t have to be a college graduate, a rocket scientist, or a mathematical genius. The steps are actually quite basic and when followed correctly, profits can be made.
I know this is a super brief breakdown but it’s not meant to be a tutorial or guide. I do plan to write a comprehensive Amazon FBA guide in the near future so stay tuned for that.
Dropshipping with Shopify
Back in early 2016 I read that people were making money with Facebook advertising. I didn’t really understand this but did some Google searches and it turns out that, indeed, people were making a shit load of money with Facebook ads and a platform called Teespring.
Basically, individuals could throw up a t-shirt design, drive traffic to the Teespring listing and get people to purchase. This was intriguing to me but still couldn’t quite wrap my head around the whole thing (I know it’s not that complicated…).
But, I’m not a designer, and I have no idea how Facebook ads work…
A couple months later, I stumbled on a blog, much like this one, and read about how people were selling physical products that they didn’t even own. In other words, they never even saw or touched these products.
Now, this was interesting.
How in the hell can you sell a product that you don’t own and never actually touch?
The answer is Aliexpress. This is the consumer version of Alibaba and contains millions of cheap products that you can ship anywhere in the world for a few dollars.
To tie this all together, what people started doing is creating Shopify stores, then populating the store with products they find on Aliexpress.
But how does the Shopify store connect to some random chinese product website?
I’m glad you asked. There are some sophisticated apps that integrate with Shopify that allows you to connect Aliexpress to the backend of your own Shopify store. Facebook is then used to drive traffic to your product page.
Here’s how it works:
- Customer sees advertisement on Facebook for LED Dog Collars (just an example)
- Customer clicks link and is brought to website www.ILOVEDOGCOLLARS.com (the Shopify site that YOU create)
- Customer buys LED Dog Collar for $14.99
- The order is then carried out on Aliexpress on the backend and customer details are automatically fulfilled from the Shopify side
- Shopify store owner (You) receives the $14.99 less Shopify fees and the product cost from Aliexpress
- $$$ is made
It’s actually quite simple but if that still doesn’t make sense, leave a comment and I’ll answer any questions you may have.
And, you might be thinking, “but isn’t that kind of messed up? Ya know, to buy something for cheap and sell it for more on another website?”
And my answer is not really. This is called online arbitrage and it occurs literally every second of everyday. Haven’t you ever gone to buy something online and see that it’s listed for multiple prices on different websites?
It’s the same thing.
Some people make their entire living off of flipping products like this. And it’s not only online. Nearly every business takes part in this process—finding goods and getting them in front of a market while taking a spread. Hopefully they’re adding a little value along the way, but that’s not always the case.
It’s not the most ideal business model, but with limited resources and cash, it’s a great way to get started making money online today.
There are hundreds of ways to make money online nowadays but I would argue that these two methods are the easiest and most scalable for somebody who is just getting started.
Amazon FBA and Shopify are especially great if you know you want to do something entrepreneurial but you don’t yet know exactly what to do.
The process of building out these stores, finding products, learning the sales and marketing aspects, are hugely beneficial for any part of business that you will go into in the future.
The business lessons learned and knowledge you acquire are far greater than any business course or professional finance job will give you.
And who knows, you may be the next guy to sell one million dollars worth of 2018’s version of fidget spinners!
P.S. if you know what that thing is, just send me an email and we can talk 😂
